Defending champions Real Madrid held off a resilient Atlético after an anxious first half to book their place in this years CL final where they will face the Italian powerhouse Juventus. Final score on the night, 2-1 (4-1 on aggregate).

Atléti trailed 3-0 from the first leg and needed to bring the game to Real from the off. It did not take Simeoni's men long. Atléti stormed into a 2-0 on the night after just 15 minutes.
Saul Niguez's powerful header the first, followed by a less than convincing penalty from Antoine Griezmann. A result from Varane naively fouling Torres in the area. A perfect start!
It took going two goals down for Real to react. Modric and co found their rhythm and began to dominate the game through some accurate passing and possession football.
It was a moment of absolute brilliance from Karim Benzema which put the tie to bed. The French centre forward did not score but he managed to send three Atléti defenders for hot dogs with a masterful piece of dribbling along the end line before feeding Kroos. His low shot was parried to Isco who put the ball in the back of the net.

The goal negated Atlético's momentum as it meant they needed to score five on the night.
Chances were scarce in the second half. Gameiro came close on a couple of occasions, but could not re-inspire Atléti to push further and grab the goals needed to progress.
Following Ronaldo's first leg hat trick, the damage was already done and the game ended. A win for Atlético on the night but once again they have been denied by Real in Europe's top competition.
Real Madrid looking to be the first team to ever retain this trophy will meet Juventus for this years CL final where they will meet in Cardiff, June 3rd.
