So what is Revolut?
Revolut is the new banking app that claims to be "better than your bank". The bottom line is that banks charge hidden fees when you spend money & Revolut doesn't. Revolut allows you to spend abroad with no fees in over 130 currencies with a contactless Mastercard and send free, fast money transfers to bank accounts anywhere in the world.
It clearly states that it's transfers are up to 10x cheaper than your bank!
Who can use it?
Revolut can be used by anybody - who doesn't want to save a few pennies?! It's ideal for students & travellers who can pay contactless with no exchange rate fees worldwide.
Why choose Revolut over a bank account?
Well for a start - it's free! No hidden fees, no ulterior motives, just simple banking. Secondly, there's no traipsing in & out of the bank because you forgot a document or proof of address.
How do you set it up?
Revolut states that you can set up an account with them in under 60 seconds. So I put it to the test.
I wasn't disappointed. I had an account set up & ready to use in no time and all in the comfort of my own home. I simply downloaded the app and filled in my personal details & address. Then to prove you're really who you say you are all you have to do is take a photo of either your Passport, ID or Drivers License.
And there you have it. Your account is set up. Now all you need to do to activate it is top up by €10 & you're ready to go!
