Cardiff 2017

Who is to be crowned Europe's best?

With the first leg of the semi finals concluded, one can't help but gaze forward to June 3rd with great anticipation.

Can Zizou's men do what has never been done before and retain the trophy?

Can Atlético make it third time the charm after falling short in the 2014 and 2016 final?

Will the competitions' best defence see Juventus lift the trophy?

Can young guns Monaco shock the world with their thrilling style; lets score more than the opposition?

Such hopeful thoughts for both Atlético and Monaco have been diminished following their first leg defeats.

They are by no means out but both teams have a huge mountain to climb.

Tuesday

The Santiago Bernabéu hosted this years first semi final which saw champions, Real Madrid dispatch their city neighbours Atlético with ease, 3-0.

A breathtaking Cristiano Ronaldo with all three goals, bringing his CL tally to eight goals in his last three games; Lionel who?

Real were superb throughout, even without Welsh ace Bale, and only for some fantastic work from Oblak between the Atléti sticks, it could have been a whole lot worse for Simeone and his men.

Real have one foot in the door of the final, on their hunt for a third CL title in four years.

At this stage it seems to be an all but impossible task for Atlético who have been knocked out of this prestigious tournament by Real for the past four years... twice losing in the final.

In case you missed it.

Wednesday

All eyes on the Stade Louis ll, with Ligue 1 front runners Monaco taking on Italian champions Juventus and another defensive master class by Max Allegri's side.

Juvé ran out 2-0 winners. A Higuaín brace with some magnificent work in the build up to the goals by Dani Alves. However, it was their defensive display that once again shone brightest.

The Italian side have conceded NO goals in the knockout stages of this years competition, this includes two games against Barcelona and their MSN combination, astonishing from Juvé.

Monaco had some tasty chances, most coming from positive work down the right flank from Dirar who found space on more than one occasion for some delish crosses. Unfortunately for Mbappe and Falcao, who have been scoring for fun this season, they could not convert.

As the game progressed, Juvé's experience became more and more evident and it was a real case of men against boys.  Juvé's starting 11 having an average age of 30.5 years compared to Monaco's baby-faced 25.

Legend of the game, Buffon and his teammates have their eyes on rectifying their CL final loss to Barca in 2015.

Much like Tuesday night, this result does not ensure Juvé go through but it is very difficult to imagine a scenario where any team goes to Turin and turns over a 2-0 deficit.

One way or the other, the future is more than bright for these young Monaco stars. Especially Kylian. The kid a baller.

Check out his goals this season.

 Roll on next week!
